CRIMEAN MEDAL(1854 - 1856)

with pale blue ribbon, yellow stripes on the outside awarded to Sgt. James Lodge, Royal Artillery with the following bars: SEBASOPOL, BALAKLAVA, INKERMANN and ALMA. Obverse shows the queen\'s coronet head and date 1854. Reverse depicts a flying figure of victory crowned with a laurel wreath, a Roman warrior armed with a shield and sword. The word \'CRIMEA\' is inscribed to the left in the field.

Queen Victoria directed that a medal be issued in 1854 with the bars INKERMANN and ALMA (this explains the date 1854 on the medal). Bars for BALAKLAVA and SEBASTOPOL were not sanctioned until the following year.

LONG SERVICE AND GOOD CONDUCT MEDAL

with plain crimson ribbon

The medal was instituted in 1830 by William IV for 21 years\' service with the colours. Obverse shows a trophy of arms surrounding the Royal Escutcheon and on the reverse the wording, \"For long service and good conduct\"

Edge reads: \"8 PENSD SERGT JAS LODGE 15TH R A\"

TURKISH CRIMEAN WAR MEDAL(Sardinian Issue)

with red ribbon, green stripes on the outside - unnamed

After the Crimean War the Turkish Government awarded silver medals to certain soldiers and sailors of their allies - British French and Sardinian. On the obverse is a field gun upon which is spread a map of the Crimea. In the background there are the British, French, Sardinian and Turkish Flags. The reverse depicts the Sultan\'s cypher within a laurel wreath, the word \'Crimea\' in Turkish and the date \'1271\' in Arabic.

PROVENANCE: The medals have been handed down and held by the soldier\'s great grandson, Geoff Lodge, who now wishes to sell them.

Would make a superb addition to any serious mid-19th century medal collection
