GENERAL ELECTRIC TOMBSTONE STYLE RADIO MODEL M-51 CIRCA 1934This is one of the first \'Superheterodyne\' radios manufactured by the General Electric Company in 1934.

This listing is for a really super nice General Electric Model M-51! Originally built in 1934. I\'ve been collecting and refurbishing for the past 50 years. Here\'s your chance to purchase a very rare model of this era 79 years old.

Cabinet and all Electronics have been gone through and refurbished recently by yours truly. I make a point of not trying to make these units look brand new. \"Over refurbishment\' tends to take away from the value of vintage condition. This model is AM Broadcast band (550 - 1600 Khz) and Shortwave band (5.5 - 18 Mhz) and plays pretty good with antenna (or straight wire attached to the antenna terminal on rear).

WWV (5 Mhz) on the Shortwave band comes in loud and clear. NIST radio station WWV broadcasts time and frequency information 24 hours per day, 7 days per week to millions of listeners worldwide. WWV is located in Fort Collins, Colorado, about 100 kilometers north of Denver. The broadcast information includes time announcements, standard time intervals, standard frequencies, UT1 time corrections, a BCD time code, geophysical alerts and marine storm warnings.

There are four knobs that control (left to right) on/off/volume, tone, tuning, and band switch (pulls out for shortwave). The tuning knob can also be pulled out to engage a fine tuning mechanism. The knobs are all original and are the correct ones for this radio. The speaker is in good condition with no distortion. I changed out the ragged original grill cloth about 5 years ago. The bezel and dial are cleaned, polished and in good condition. This was a upscale machine for its time only the wealthy could afford! Style is Art Deco radio of the mid 1930s period. You may not find another treasure like this one anywhere else. A great old set!

This unit is sharp looking and small enough in size to fit anywhere in your home or office.

Wood style case size is 18\" Tall X 10\" Wide Depth X 14.50\". 5 tube circuit with transformer 110 volt AC, 60Hz. Here is a great Holiday gift for that special collector!
