This is lovely Georgian sundial. It has a patination of age - and also has old rivets or fittings to attach the pillar to the disc (certainly not modern screws with a slotted head) as you can see in my photographs on the base - the tip of the head of central one seems to have been broken at a relatively recent, hence the gleam of the metal - but they are certainly not modern fixtures.

The dial is 6 inches in diameter - consistent with it being a genuine old piece rather than a modern reproduction which are generally larger in size.

The is signed Thomas Grice and with the date 1705 - this is not immediately evident and again consistent with it being older as it appears slightly weathered.

There is a mottle around the edge - which reads: Seize the moment the evening hour is nigh.

There are the times in Roman numerals and all incised by hand - with a star and points of the compass in the centre.

There is an ancient tiny mark to the surface near the rim as shown in close up - but the only issue with this - and is you might expect to find on an older piece.

The back also has an antique patina - commensurate with age - and which would also be expected on an item that has sat for many years on a stone plinth in a garden - where the dial has weathered and the metal got distressed. I have taken a lot of close ups of this which you can supersize for closer inspection.

The central pillar is secure - with the most minute kink to it and again something that you would not find on a reproduction one.

It was acquired some time ago from me from an estate sale with some other old gardening equipment.

Gosh! not sure that these old dials are worth - so just starting it off at a very low price - s. Please dont ask if I have a buy it now price - as I am planning to just let this run to avoid any disappointments to people who plan to offer.
