A lovely good sized George III silver Vinaigrette, modelled as a valise or purse. The lid hinges open to reveal a pierced grille with floral decoration. There are hallmarks on the top and bottom of the vinaigrette, and on the grille. There are some initials engraved in the centre on the bottom of the viniagrette. These valise vinaigrettes tended to be made quite small. This is a slightly larger version than normal.

Hallmarks: The viniagrette is English sterling silver hallmarked for Birmingham 1817 (Anchor, Lion Passant, Date Letter t, George tax mark). The maker's mark 'JW' refers to the silversmith Joseph Wilmore.

Dimensions: It is 3cm wide, 2.1cm deep, and 1cm high. It weighs 15.4g

Condition: The hinges on both the vinaigrette and grille are a little loose, and the grille is slightly bent by the hinge, although not split. Tiny dint on the underside in the snakeskin decoration (almost can't see it), and right edge of lid slightly pushed out. Being Picky here! Please see photos.
