Stylish Junghans Mantel Clock with Westminster Chimes. Germany, 1912Gorgeous Junghans mantel clock with Westminster chimes, with solid wooden box and in perfect working order. This clock was manufactured in Germany in the second half of 1912 for the British market. The clock chimes the hours, halves and quarters and is in really good condition, having been restored and fine-tuned so it can show off its magnificent look and wonderful sound. Classic in style and quite elegant, the clock’s movement is signed by Junghans and the box is embellished with polished brass details that make a nice contrast with the dark finish of the wood. As stated before, the clock’s movement bears an engraved mark with the Junghans monogram: an 8-point star with a capital J and the market name inside. Under this mark we can see the inscription B12. Junghans came to being in 1861, when Erhard Junghans opened the first factory in Schramberg, a citadel in the German Black Forest, together with his brother-in-law Jakob Zeller-Tobler. In the beginning they specialized in small component parts, but with the trace of time they started making all kind of clocks and watches: from wall and mantel clocks to wristwatches. Nowadays the firm is still alive and keeps its monogram (the mentioned star), that was first registered in 1890. Our clock has solid beech wooden box with a nice dark mahogany finish protected by French polish that provides it with a warm shine. The box stands on four stylized brass legs that match the frame of the glass door, the hinges and the handle that crowns the piece. The face is printed in black ink on a metal plate and bears Arab numbers. Over the main face we can see two smaller markers used to adjust the sound (chime or silent) and the movement’s speed. This antique Junghans clock’s elegance and great look, together with its gorgeous sound, will draw anyone’s attention in the most special room. Measurements: Width: 14.4 in/29 cm. Height: 14.9 in/38 cm.
