SPRING BARGAIN - NOW REDUCED!

I have a rare treat for the lucky winning buyer here!

A pair of historically and philatelically very interesting documents from 1928, being a cover and a postcard that were carried on board the LZ127 \"Graf Zeppelin\" for the first EVER commercial flight across the Atlantic.

The postcard features a colourful scenic view on one side, but on the reverse has a handwritten message to a Miss Erika Ernst living in New York. The message on the card reads (I believe):

\"Darling child, The fastest means of transport is too slow for me in bringing my heartfelt greetings to you my darling child. I really hope that our LZ127 survives its journey and my greetings catch you cheerful and *****. Many thanks for your *****. You should hear from me again soon. Greetings and kisses. Franzel (?)\"

The card bears the 2 mark bright blue Zeppelin stamp SG444 (catalogued £80 used) which has been franked with a neat \"FRIEDRICHSHAFEN Bodensee LUFTPOST\" cds, dated 10 October 1928, the day before LZ127 set off on its pioneering flight to the United States of America. The card has also been stamped with the very special \"Graf Zeppelin\" cachet in blue and has a New York receiver postmark dated 16 October 1928. The airship having arrived at Lakehurst Naval Air Station, New Jersey the day before.

The cover (slit across the top and down one side) is also addressed to the same lady in New York as the postcard, and bears the 4 mark sepia Zeppelin stamp SG445 (catalogued £55 used) which has been franked with the identical postmark as the card above. It too has the New York receiver cds postmark for 16 October 1928 on the reverse of the cover.

The condition of the postcard I would describe as very good, although there is a small bend on the top left-hand corner. As far as the cover is concerned, I would describe it as average for an 88 year old document that has been backwards and forwards across the Atlantic at least twice! It is a little \'distressed\' in places and someone at some point applied a small strip of cellotape just above and clear of the stamp, which has left the rectangular brown mark visible in the scan.

On both documents the stamps are superb used.

Having said all that, this is a great opportunity to own 2 fantastic pieces of philatelic postal history addressed to the same person and exemplifying the key items carried by this pioneering flying machine during its lifetime of 1.7 million flown miles.

(NB: p&p to EU is £6.50 and to USA/Canada/Japan/Australia/NZ is £7.50 AND I always use REAL stamps on my sendings)

If you win 2 or more of my lots, I will always endeavour where possible to combine the items to keep the p&p costs to a minimum,

so please wait for my invoice before paying.

Please view my other lots and perhaps put me in your \'Saved Sellers\' folder, as I will be listing some super lots from my own collection over the coming months (GB; Europe; etc)
