Gold Dresden paper covered Guitar, Candy Container Ornament. Early 1900s German Ornament

Paper ornaments never entirely disappeared from the American market, but their popularity really dwindled after all these glass ornaments appeared on the market. For the Germans, paper has always been part of their tree. And for tradition, German American families still used them as well. This, and the otherpaper and tinselornaments listed this evening date to pre-World War I as this estate had only items from the early 1870s to 1910. If you look carefully, there is no doubt that this is a hand-crafted ornament, made in the home, from materials they purchased.

Guitar candy container and Christmas Tree Ornament.

Over the decades, the back has not opened... and I have never wished to pry it.

I leave things they way they arrive in our home.

Handle was also reinforced from the back many decades ago.

Thank goodness this was done, and easily broken with heavy candy inside.

Gold Dresden paper covered, for such a rich and wonderful appearance.

Silver tinsel wire outlines the entire guitar.

Extra silver tinsel loop with wire attached is how it was hung on the Christmas tree.

Little Girl\'s head scrap at the top.

Then a Victorian girl in a blue and white sailor\'s suit.

Lots of flowers.

Silver tinsel spray underneath the girl.

3.50by 8.00\" and in very good condition, considering its age.

In the early 1990s, I curated three exhibits in separate years at the Smithsonian in Washington, DC. This is from the exhibit on Christmas through the Decades, and this candy container ornament was used on the 1890s feather tree. This, and a few others, have been in storage for a long time in surveyors chest in back closet. It is time to get these out of the drawers, and hopefully a new care-taker can be found for them.

There is nothing wrong withthis Germanpaper and tinselornament. These ornaments being listed today arein very good shape. They arevintage, notreproductions. I guarantee that. I start all my sales at .99 cents as it is an sale and I just never cared when I went to live sale and thesaleeer started very high, and then spent time backing down to get a offer. I know it is a low offer, but that is how I list every item on .

I am more than happy to combine postage to save money.

Just let me know you are multiple offerdingand I will invoice you when you are finished offerding and wish for me to send the items. Then, I will combine postage and send to you, and send final invoice. If any questions about this, please email me.
