Gorgeous fine quality Antique Spot Motif House Sampler created by Mary Stanley aged 8 years and six months in 1826. It is an incredible piece of work to have been stitched by such a young child and it must have been a true labour of love for her to complete to such a high standard.Very fine meticulously neat stitch work throughout.
Please examine the photos carefully this is a wonderful piece of work.Please excuse shadows at bottom of some photos from photographing it.
Three tiers of a range of spot motifs including flowers in urns, trees, birds, diamonds, interspersed with border patterns are in the top half of the sampler, followed by the popular verse - \" Jesus permit thy gracious name to stand...\"
In the lower section Mary has carefully worked a pretty country house scene,complete with trees, birds, dogs,picket fence, and a lady with a parasol. She has signed and dated beneath the house scene:
\"Mary Stanley Aged Eight Years And Six Months 1826\".
The whole is surrounded by an intricate honeysuckle border.
In an antique oak frame and slip frame it makes a most impressive focal point.This beautiful sampler has been conserved for future generations to enjoy by placing on museum quality mount board slip cased in fresh pure linen and set back from the glass.Ready to hang and enjoy.
