Great 1888 Chicago African Americana Illustrated Letter .watercolor.signed:
Very charming letter illustrated in watercolor, and maybe gouache, depicting African American andCaucasian kids, birds and animals, dated Feb 26 1888, from Chicago.it seems to be in German, which I don't read, so I'm not sure what it says,It seems to be from an uncle (onkel Rudas) to a niece or nephew. The writer has inscribed his initials lower right, with "del".The quality of the drawings and the inscription pushes me to think that he might be a professional artist orIllustrator.
The letter has been mounted on paper board, shows age, folds, and is about 15 x 11 in.
Please look at pictures.AS IS.
I leave it with the original frame and a few period nails,Notice the 2 arts and crafts rose nails for the wire.I took of the glass off.
A very interesting and charming piece which deserves more research and attention.
Thanks for looking. Good luck offerding.
