Description

We are listing several spectacular Byzantine icons today. Handcrafted in Greece, these icons follow the traditional construction of centuries-old icons: a foundation of wood covered with gesso, the background gilded with gold leaf, and the images intricately hand-painted with egg tempera.

These come through a private collection; age is unknown but most likely 20th century pieces.

This listing is for an interpretation of Christ\'s resurrection and is 11x14 1/2 on wood 1 1/2\" thick.

Some sort of bump under the gold leaf on top edge (wouldn\'t be seen when hanging) ... probably some of the gesso that didn\'t get sanded down.

Back is covered with felt or flannel.
