Triptolemus - Greek God of agriculture

Dimensions - Length - 3.8 cm - 1-1/2 inches

Height - 2.6 cm - 1 inch

Depth - 0.8 cm - 1/4 inch

Triptolemus - His name means ' Three fold warrior' .

This is a fine amulet that features the Greek god of agricultural learning Triptolemus, also known as Buzyges. A demi - god by Greek standards he was associated with the Goddess Demeter of the Eleusian mysteries who taught him the art of agriculture which included planting and harvest and seasonal observations. It was through Triptolemus that the ancient Greek population was taught to grow crops and set the nation on a path of prosperity.

Other key attributes show that he was also associated with the bestowal of hope for a good afterlife. He had 3 principal commandments for a simple and pious life :-

- Honour your parents

- Honour the gods with fruits and grain.

- Spare the animal

He was most often shown in artworks riding a winged chariot being drawn by serpents and brandishing ears of wheat or barley in his hands. The depiction on this amulet demonstrates these features as does the late 1800'simage on a reproduction collector card included with the amulet.

Made of a limestone and quartzite composition stone which has been given an aged ochre colouration.

*Combined postage offered for international and domesticorders.
