FANTASTIC, ORIGINAL HANDWRITTEN NINETEENTH CENTURY DIARY, FROM LEHIGH COUNTY PENNSYLVANIA, 1899. Historically important diary is loaded with genealogy from this area of Pennsylvania, which in 1899 was predominantly Pennsylvania German. Our writer, James S. Peter, was a Notary Public, Justice Of The Peace, and in 1905 was elected a County Commissioner of Lehigh County, PA. James was a busy man and traveled throughout the county to Allentown, Bethlehem, Best Station, Egypt, Friedens, Franklin, Heidelberg, Catasauqua, Lehigh Furnace, Lehigh Gap (also in Northampton County,) Neffs (also in North Whitehall Township,) Slatington, Saegersville, Slatedale, New Tripoli, Walnutport, etc. He records numerous deaths, attends a number of funerals, is very active enforcing wills, settling and selling estates, appraising properties, is an attorney at law, owned a successful farm that he inherited from his father, and beyond that helped to run the family store; Peters General Store, and Hotel.
