Antique Jewelry Box with Hennell 1802 Sterling Silver Trim Ring.

This piece came to us recently and it dates back to the very beginning of the 19th century.

It is a Jewelry / Vanity Box with top surface for pins, and trimmed with a Sterling Silver ring that has a geometric and floral motif.

The Sterling Silver is the work of London silversmiths Robert I, David II, and Samuel Hennell using their RH DH SH maker mark. Various members of the family have been working with silver since the early 1700\'s, and their work is well known.

The trim ring has their maker mark (although wear to the bottom edge makes the lowest set of initials difficult to read) along with the London city mark, and \"G\" date code for 1802.

The ring just sits in its position, and is easy to remove for cleaning or polishing. It weighs 54 grams and is about 1-1/2 inches in height.

The Jewelry Box is fabric covered with a blue interior. It measures 2-3/4 inches high, 5-3/4 inches wide, and 4-1/4 inches deep. With trim and lid in place, it weighs 8 ounces (220 grams).

The lid is domed, and we believe it was used for pins, based on the wear we see on its surface.

Condition: Very good. For the age of the piece, the fabric is in fantastic shape, as is the material that covers the underside. Some thin spots are seen on the fabric, but there are no significant tears or damage. There is the remnant of what at first appears to be a label on the underside of the lid. More likely, it was a strap used to pull the lid off, but only a small piece remains.

The silver trim is in very good shape. We gave it a quick polish, but areas of tarnish remain if the buyer wants to polish it further. It has some worn spots, especially at edges, and some slight edge bending, but is in quite nice shape overall. All pictures show the actual piece you will receive.

Quite an unusual piece to find in such good shape, and with a nice piece of Hennell sterling as well - it will make an excellent addition to any sterling or vanity collection.
