DESCRIPTION& NOTES:Early20th Century circular vesta case / match safe of circular “lunar” formwith round watch fob attachment. Made during the Edwardian Period byHenry Williamson Ltd., Birmingham (1910) it exemplifies the sleekelegance that occurred as a reaction to the often unnecessarilyextravagant Victorian era. During this time a proto-modern movement wasdeveloping in England, most popularly led by Christopher Dresser, whichwould set the stage for the coming Art Deco and Modernist achievements.This match safe is deceptive in its simplicity. The basiccircular geometric form is a parallel to the pocket watch it wasintended to accompany and the pocket friendly flattened form anaccentuation of function over ornament. The top-third portion is anintegral hinged lid that opens “pac-man” style to reveal the contents,and there is a ridged divide in the base acting as a match strike.

CONDITION:GoodVintage Condition – no damage, no repair. An antique it shows expectedsigns of light use commensurate with age. The hinge works perfectly,the lid shuts and holds secure, the fob ring appears original, and thepatina is warm and rich.
