Для удобства пользования справочником информация разделена на два тома.

В первом томе опубликованы марки более 280 фарфоровых, фаянсовых и майоликовых предприятий СССР - более 780 торговых знаков. Они сгруппированы по названиям заводов. Дополнительно приведены 800 фотоизображений образцов фабричных клейм с предметов, хранящихся в музейных и частных собраниях.
Первый том может рассматриваться как совершенно самостоятельная книга небольшого размера, которую удобно взять с собой. Здесь есть указатели - географических названий, предприятий, и, самое главное, - детально разработанный указатель по отличительным признакам марки, который позволяет любителю керамики быстро определить место и время рамки книги - 1917-1991 гг., однако исследователи позволили себе опубликовать изображения клейм 1991-2009 гг. для того, чтобы коллекционер имел представление о современных марках, и мог самостоятельно отличить изделия указанного периода от старых вещей.
