Fantastic - and rare - figural piece in the form of 3scavenger birds, vultures or buzzards, on a rocky perch. They are rendered in awhimsical, stylized design, to include long beaks and great knobby talons. The 3 sizes suggest a family: parents and young-un. They also make me think of a weird cross between the creatures from \"Aliens\" and the 3 crows in Disney\'s \"Dumbo.\"
I don\'t believe this was intended as a bookend - there is not enough flat surface (or weight) on the back side to hold up books; so I am inclined to think it was meant as a stand-alone decorative art piece for one\'s desk or Halloween table.
Bronze-clad by Armor Bronze of NYC, their name and customary shield logo formed into the back of the base. I am guessing the 1920\'s.
Condition is excellent: no breaks in the cladding, no dents on the bird figures, no mashed corners on the base. Finish is original. Felt on bottom might be, as well. The piece sits flat and stable.
5½ inches tall; 3¾ inches wide; 2½ inches deep. Weighs 1¼ pounds.
