Beautifully Hand-Painted
9\" Covered Bowl with Lid
1920s Vintage Noritake
\"M\" mark in 5-m cherry blossom

Offered for sale: A very pretty hand-painted covered serving bowl from Noritake, imported by the Morimura company, during the 1920s. The design features colorful flowers in pink and blue, with green leaves, and a green band with dark blue highlghts around the rim. The decorations are \"raised,\" slip decorated, which you can feel when you run your fingers over the flowers or green band (the tiny dots on the green band feel like sandpaper!) There are brown borders and gold trim on the handles and foot.

This pretty piece measures 9 inches wide across the middle of the rim, 10.5 inches wide across the handles, and about 4.75 inches high at the top of the lid\'s handle. The bowl and lid are in very good condition, with no chips, cracks, fleabites or crazing. There is a little wear to the gold trim around the handles, and some very faint wear to the brown border.

The bottom of the bowl has a very light, but interesting, mark. There is a light blue-green 5-M cherry blossom mark with an \"M\" in the center. Above and below the mark is \"Noritake / Made in Japan.\" The cherry blossom in the shape of five \"Ms\" (according to the gotheborg.com site) is a Noritake mark subcontracted to independent companies making porcelain for the USA market, by the Nippon Toki Kasha Company (Noritake Company), and dates to about 1924. The \"M\" is for the import company Morimura.
