Here\'s a very old small Pacific Coast Diary for 1894 that says it was published annually and sold by all booksellers and stationers on the Pacific Coast. It has a lot of other information in it, about the first 10 pages, like the population of different cities and states in 1880 and 1890 and has postage rates, high tides, calendar for 1894, legal holidays, Festivals and Fasts, Eclipses in the year 1894, a few memoranda pages, cash account pages for each month to keep track of your income or expenses, address pages and at the very back is handwritten POSTAGE and there is a little opening slot to put stamps or whatever in. By reading through many of the pages, it looks like this diary was written by a teenage boy because he was attending school and taking courses like Algebra and Chemistry. He wrote one day that a Professor from Berkley came to visit his school. He also plowed fields, planted corn and beets, picked blackberries along with other berries, bought a cow for $40.00 (and another cow months later for $35.00) and was milking and churning butter, did yard work, worked on a carriage, went to Sunday school, played the flute, attended groups like I.O.O.F. and I.O.G.T. and he just had a busy day everyday. He mentions going to Los Angeles many times so I think he lived around that area, maybe Anaheim or Santa Ana. There is a name written in the front of the book along with writing in Latin or another language so I don\'t know what it says but it looks like his name was Benjamin O. Lacey. He wrote in the diary every day and some of the writing is easy to read and some parts are a little light when he wrote in pencil or the ink has faded some. I would say you can read at least 90% of his writing but there are a few pages where he wrote diagonally on top of other writing so that is hard to read. This is a very small diary that would fit in a shirt pocket so it only measures about 3 1/4\" tall by 2 1/4\" wide and is a little under 1/2\" thick. This diary has some wear for being 123 years old but I would say it is in pretty good condition with normal wear for age. I\'m not sure but I think the cover is made out of a thin leather like lamb.I am happy to offer shipping discounts on multiple purchases so please check out my other items in my store.
