Head has been making some of the best fitting, best skiiing boots in the world for many years, but up until recently they have received very little attention in the US market. They are no longer flying under the radar. Now, with an UBERsuccessful World Cup racing team (i.e. Bodie Miller, Lindsey Vonn, Ted Ligety, Didier Cuche), and freeskiing legends Jon Olsson and Simon Dumont all skiing on Head product by choice, not because Head pays them big money, Head has proven to the world that athletes who make a living on the podium choose Head equipment when they need to win.

AdaptEdge is the latest incarnation of the Edge series boots that have been best sellers for Head over the past 10 years or so. Adapt Edge fits people with wider feet that want a good fitting, high performance boot. Up until recently, almost all wide, high volume boots were soft, low performance models, with the Edge series, Head finally gave skiers with wide feet a boot that skis great and doesn\'t kill their feet.

The new AdaptEdge boots are revolutionary in that they are the only boot on the market that can actively adjust the last width of the boot. Adaptive Fit Technology allows you to adjust the last width from 102-104mm with a turn of a screw on the bottom of the boot. The newest generation of Edge shells are more anatomically shaped and fit very, very well, Head also fitted the AdaptEdge with a triple injection frame to give you strength and support where you need it and softer inserts elsewhere to optimize comfort.

AdaptEdge gives people with wide feet a great skiing, high performance boot with room everywhere you need it. For stiffer flex, higher performance versions, see the AdaptEdge 100 and AdaptEdge Ltd in our store. Check out these features of the Head AdaptEdge 90:

  • Triple Injected Energy Frame construciton -Harder and softer plastics are used in different zones as needed toimprove fit, comfort and performance. For instance, the Easy Entry flaps overthe instep area are softer, allowing the shell to wrap over and closetightly on the top of the foot. The lower shell area is stifferplastic, allowing for maximum energy transfer to the ski area.

  • Heatfit Liner - A performance fitliner that is also very comfortable, it is the softest, roomiest liner in the Vector series. Based on a 103 mm shell last,it has a bit of extra room in the toe box, and more width across theforefoot for maximum comfort. Compared with many other boots in thisperformance range, the Vector shell is roomier in the front for allday comfort . But, this very technical liner is also designed towork with the new Vector shell shape, with minimum gaps between linerand shell, and stiffer materials through the heel and uppershaft to make the boot more responsive edge to edge. The Heatfit lineris made up of components that are designed to self mold to your footas you wear the boot, but it can be heat molded as well. The fit is average, andhas enough cush to be very, very comfortable.

  • Adjustable Rear Spoiler - Allows theupper cuff of the boot to be adjusted up for taller skiers and down for shorter. Or, remove it entirely for a roomier fit around the upper calf.

  • Flex Index is 90/80 - right in the middle of the AdaptEdge, NextEdge line. There is enough support for moderately aggressiveskiing, but it is very easy for even an intermediate level skier to flex it nicely to work with today\'snewer, shorter length skis. Simply turn the adjustment bolt on the back of the boot to change between the two settings.

  • Double Canting - Both side hinges are adjustable where the upper meets the lower shell. This allows for adjustment to ensure the boot/ski system is flat on the snow. A properly canted boot ensures easier edge control and faster glide on the snow.

  • 104 / 102 mm Shell Last - Out of the box, the AdaptEdge shell has one of the roomiest forefoots on the market. But, with just a quick trun of the included wrench, and the front of the boot can be made snugger to fit an average width foot. Or, as a skier gets more experienced, the boot can be adjusted to the narrower position to improve response and feel for the snow.

  • Aluminum Micro Adjustable Buckles - allow the fit to be adjusted in small increments for the perfect compromise between comfort and performance. Additionally, the two upper buckles have a flip out lever making the boot much easier to buckle when the skier is standing in them. You won\'t have to ask someone else to buckle your boots tighter when you have no leverage to close the upper buckles while you are standing in your skis.

  • Fleece Lined Upper Shaft - The footglides right in thanks to the slightly slippery texture of the fleece and it is very warm also.
How does the AdaptEdge 90 fit? Very comfortable and supportive fit for the wider foot right out of the box, with a lots of toe room. Softer inside than the stiffer Vector models, but not a super mushy feel either. If you have a very wide foot, or a super high instep, this may be the best choice on the market for you. For most skiers with average to slightly higher volume feet, this boot will be a very good choice. The liner can be heat molded, but this is not necessary, as it will mold itself to your foot during the first few days you ski in it. Other boots on the market with similar fit characteristics would be Nordica Cruise, Salomon Mission, and Dalbello Aerro. However, none of these boots ski as well as the AdaptEdge 90.
