Picked up this extraordinary piece at an sale here in Upstate, NY. Also listing an unbelievable chair that came from the same estate, so please check my other listings. Someone suggested this piece may be Anglo Indian. Any additional info and response would be welcome and appreciated as I am not an expert in this area.
This cabinet is quite similar to a \"puzzle bed\" a friend of mine purchased at the same sale. The term puzzle was used as these pieces were constructed without nails. The pieces simply fit together with grooves and wooden pegs. The cabinet comes in three pieces. The base, the cabinet itself which sits on the base with no nails, and the top decorative piece which has had the wooden pegs replaced by screws serving in their place. There is minimal damage which is shown in the photos (the small missing pieces to the carving on the bottom of one side being the example). The top decorative piece is also a bit loose, but could easily be glued into place should you desire.
According to the saleeer, the piece is from the late 1800\'s. This is in keeping with my own knowledge of these types of puzzle pieces. For some reason, the previous owners put the yellow contact paper shown in the earlier photos on the inside of the cabinet. I have taken it off the shelves as shown in the final picture. I began to take it off the inside of the cabinet door but wanted to make sure it does not affect the piece\'s integrity (i.e. somehow damage the finish). Therefore I left it on the inside of the door. It came off the shelves with no problem at all. Will leave it up to you.
Measures 40\" wide at the widest point, 23\" at the narrowest. 18\" deep. 56\" tall including the top decorative piece, 48\" tall without.
I will ship in two pieces so that it won\'t have to be sent freight (therefore saving quite a bit of money and delivery time). Both pieces (the base and the cabinet) will be fully insured for the total amount. The top piece will be included in one of the two packages.
