HERBERT HOOVER.Typed letter signed from President Herbert Hoover to Indiana University President William Lowe Bryan. Bryan was the tenth president at Indiana University serving from 1902 to 1937. Hoover thanks Bryan for his support during the United States presidential election of 1932. The letter contains one page and it is on White House stationery. It is in overall fine condition with only horizontal folds. The letter was sent from Washington, D.C. on May 16, 1932.

HOOVER THANKS THE INDIANA UNIVERSITY PRESIDENT FOR HIS SUPPORT DURING THE PRESIDENTIAL ELECTION OF 1932

The letter is matted and framed with a photograph of Hoover attending an Indiana University vs. Northwestern University football game on October 26, 1940. In addition, the letter and photograph are covered by ultraviolent light glass which protects the items from 99 percent UV light.

According to our references and records, there are only a few correspondence letters in existence from U.S. Presidents to the faculty and staff at Indiana University. All of these letters are currently housed at Indiana University’s Archives and Special Collections Departments with the exception of this example being the only one believed to be in private hands.
