This listing is for a vintage Herman Miller Eames lounge chair and ottoman. This chair was finished in its original rosewood. I purchased this chair from the original owners family as the original owner had passed and he was a furniture dealer for Herman Miller. The tags on the chair are Herman Miller and show A California label with the Redwood Ave address with a two digit zip code. I believe this dates it back to pre 1962. This has down feather as indicated on the label. I have only seen two other chairs with labels like this. If anyone knows more about this particular label I would love to know as well. The label is like this on both the chair and ottoman. The ottoman glides are adjustable and has 2 screws under the armrests so it is not the first year of production, another interesting fact is that all the panels with the exception of the footstool have the number 401 indented in the rosewood, I don\'t know if they used this method in early production. I will describe this chair the best that I can. I will start with the positives: Very comfortable with the down feathers. You actually sink into the chair. Early production chair. Beautiful grain and very nice panels for 50+ year old chair. The metal and paint are very good for its age. All glides in decent condition, swivel is nice and smooth. The negatives, the chair had been drilled when the original shock mounts failed, the two mounts on the seat paneI. I filled the 4 holes and did an average staining over the holes, I believe someone could improve on this if desired. I installed 4 new shock mounts even though the other two mounts were still firmly attached. I added a step that some purists may or may not like, I just did not ever want a shock mount failure with the panels breaking and someone getting hurt. I installed on inside of each panel a threaded insert and have a flush mount screw through the shock mount (1 per mount) and into the panel along with the proper glue. I spent a lot of time to perfect this and I made sure that all surfaces were properly prepped. You would never know this was there with the exception of the screw head in the rubber mount ( it has the same head as the shock mount screws) which is flush just as the shock mount screws are. The leather is fair with the two back cushions very nice. The arm rests are fair with some marks/cracks. The seat cushion is worn but almost perfect for its age. Now the ottoman cushion is not good as in the leather is heavily cracked and the back is in worse for wear shape as well. I have been using and enjoying the chair in its current state and I would not change a thing. This chair was always in a smoke free home and is in a current smoke free home. I am setting a fixed shipping price and will utilize my local UPS store to pack and ship this, shipping only within the continental U.S. I am sure that you will need to do some re assembly when it arrives. You may also use your own shipper and have it blanket wrap shipped at your cost. I would also consider shipping this Greyhound Package Express for $150.00. The chair would still be disassembled and boxed. You would need to make sure that you have a Greyhound that accepts packages and they only insure for 300.00. Thank you.
