EDWARDS, No 102 (1785)A stunning volume, rebound in full rich leather with lovely gilt border to front and rear boards. There are five raised bands, gilt detail and gilt titles to spine. Measuring approx 26.5cm x 21cm x 3cm. There are a couple of minor minor scuffs to leather, else in wonderful, bright condition.Internallythere are marbled fixed endpapers, with leather trim and plain free endpaper. There are several more recent blanks, and the original front and rear endpapers arecreased. There are a couple of corner creases to title page. Missing all plates/maps. There is the occasionalpale scattered foxed/brown patch, the odd pale mark or crease, else in good, clean and tight condition.Scarce FIRST EDITION of this fascinatinghistory, with description of Gibraltar, description of the Garrison, the Blockade, Admiral Sir G. B. Rodney, Spanish Batteries, Forces, Army, Battering Ships, Enemy, Admiral Lord Howe, Ammunition etc etc. Beautifully rebound in rich leather with gilt detail.Colonel John Drinkwater Bethune (1762 – 1844),was an English army officer and military historian, well known for his journal, which he kept during the Great Siege of Gibraltar.
