Honey Bowl - Classic Anna Carmi - Vintage - New - Rosh Hashanah - Israel

Hand Decorated Honey Bowl and Spoon by Anna Carmi
Blue Motif with Roses

A Must Have for Rosh HashanahAbout Anna CarmiBorn in Moscow in 1968. Since the time of her first memories her parents supported and nurtured her love for painting. When she grew up, she chose the medium of ceramics, mixing childhood dreams with the oriental atmosphere of Jerusalem, the city where she had the fortune to create and to start her family.
A lot of time passes since the moment when raw clay starts its journey towards becoming an object to covet.
Many pairs of hands caress it, adding meaning and color to the vessel.
Until it's complete, each piece undergoes at least four firings
During this process the object accumulates the atmosphere and the intention dominating the workshop at the time, a story for the object to tell the person whose heart will open for it. About the Process
The objects exhibited here were produced through a long and complicated process in which many craftsmen have participated in cooperation with the artist.
For every stage in the making of a vessel there's a signature at its bottom, left by the person responsible for carrying it out.
It thus occurs that the bottoms of the items are in fact the birth certificates of each vessel
The works are formed according to Anna's design, some on the wheel and some out of slabs.
The clay is still wet when embossing and apertures are added to the vessel, to be used later for setting crystal gems.
After the dried vessel has been fired for the first time, a rich variety of glazes are applied by brushing and combine to create a harmonious and colorful texture during the second firing.
At the next stage the piece is coated with decals - ceramic prints providing a theme, a graphical character and another layer of color to the vessel.
Following the third firing, a thin brush is used to give the piece an additional grid of ornaments in gold or platinum, adding refinement, hypnotizing glint and splendor.
This is the stage where Anna adds her final signature together with a catalog number and the documentation of the place and the time of the creation, and the ceramic process is sealed with the fourth firing.
The vessel has undergone the last firing, but the work is not complete yet.
This is when colored crystals and precious stones are at last imbued into the vessel. All of the above is an attempt at a brief explanation of the production process for the curious among you
However, those few words cannot convey the atmosphere, the stories, the amount of hours passing as minutes in the process of creation.
