The bracelet was beautifully created with a detailed design around the raised stone which has precise, clean lines that quality Hopi jewelry is known for. This bracelet required a very steady hand, many painstaking hours to create and techniques that have been handed down through several generations. Clifton Mowa has certainly created a one of a kind superb masterpiece with this bracelet. It can be worn everyday and will last a lifetime by someone who appreciates authentic, quality Hopi jewelry.

The Hopi overlay process involves using two layers of sterling silver. The bottom layer serves as the base or foundation for the artist’s creation which is etched and oxidized to give it that characteristic blackened background that Hopi jewelry is known for. The second layer is the detailed design. The artist created this design by hand using small jeweler’s saws and chisels which is a tedious process that requires a steady hand. The top layer is bonded to its foundation layer in a complex soldering process. Hopi designs usually include cultural symbols that include animals, nature or clan symbols that are considered religious or secular in meaning.

The hand symbolizes the presence of man, his work, achievments and his legacy. The sun in the palm of the hand represents the giver of life, warmth, growth and all that is good.
