Large Size Antique French Louis XVI Old Master style painting -Oil painting on canvas - Frieze Trompe L\'oeil style with cherubs and goat within gilt pendant - Grisaille type painting with robins egg / pale turquoise blue back ground which has yellowed and darkened with age. Appears to be very early, possible18 or early 19 century, stretchered on wood and later 1910s gilt wood frame. Unsigned. About 55 inches x 41.0 inches. Magnificent and stunning.Good as found condition - areas of scratches and crazing to canvas, small surface abrasions and losses to paint. As you can see in the photos 50 or more years ago an attempt at cleaning the painting was made lower left side, revealing the true color (pale robin egg blue) of the back ground. It needs cleaning desperately. As-Is and as found. This will be amazing when cleaned.
