Stunning vintage or antique cairoware Mamluk revival tray. Extremely heavy large brass tray with inlaid silver and copper calligraphy and interlacing foliate designs. The finest I have seen; this type of work is extremely difficult, but in this example, the calligraphy flows with such liquid grace that it is hard to believe it is executed in silver and copper rather than ink.

Central design of delicate interweaving vines, ringed by calligraphy and foliate cartouche. Rim bears multiple inscriptions in Arabic calligraphy. A work of outstanding artistry and skill.

This monumental tray was a gift to the former owner\'s grandfather from the Shah of Iran, (1919-1980.)
