This is Hutschenreuther model 1015. Figurine is in Art Deco style. It features Rococo Lady. This is Rosina - personage of famous Mozart’s opera ‘The Marriage of Figaro’. She is sitting and listening to Cherubino’s love speech. She is shown with one foot going forward. She is holding Chinese fan in her right hand near her face and pulling her left hand ahead ready for a courtesy kiss. Figure stands on small pedestal of ornate shape. Figure is white with detailed outlined in gold. This is not blank white; it rather has a pale feeling. Gentle texture of porcelain beautifully represents details of lady’s body and dress. Figurine is glazed. Looks splendid. Hutschenreuther was well known as one of the greatest porcelain figurine makers for about 200 years. Its most famous Lion mark is a symbol of high quality and artistic design. Hutschenreuther’s art department was established in 1917. Nowadays, the Lion mark is under umbrella of Rosenthal Group. This figurine is marked on the backside with standard production mark of Art Department used in c. 1955 - 1968.
Famous artist Karl Tutter (1883 – 1969) designed this figurine - there is incised ‘K. Tutter’ on the backside. He was a leading designer for Hutschenreuther during almost forty years. He received his education in art in Austria and originally worked as a painter. His passion for porcelain came much later. After World War I he spent about six years as a prisoner of war in Siberia and worked as a modeler in Chabarovsk. He joined Hutschenreuther in 1922 as a sculptor. Later he emerged to china design and his works bought him world recognition. His passion was sculpture. He was the best in controlling plastic forms in Hutschenreuther and his imagination had no boundaries. His figurines remain the most collectible.
Figurine measures about 2 ½” x 2” and stands 3 ½” tall. Condition is immaculate with no cracks or chips found. Gold has no wear. There is something making noise inside this piece when you shake it as it is often happening with vintage porcelain figures. We do not see any problem with this item. It displays very well.
