London, R & S Garrard - 6 troy oz. - STUNNING VERY RARE
This is an absolutely fabulous and substantial ANTIQUE EDWARDIAN solid sterling silver tea caddy which was made in London, England in 1904, by the famous Victorian silversmith, Sebastian Henry Garrard of R. & S. Garrard & Company at their Haymarket workshops. It has a gorgeous tapered cylindrical shape with gorgeous and deep embossed floral and foliate decoration to the sides.It is NOT engraved.This wonderful piece measuresalmost 3\" in diameter and stands 4\" high. It is of very thick gauge silver, very high quality and is VERY substantial - it weighs182.0 grams -well over 5 3/4troy oz.
It is in very good condition with less than the usual surface scratching, a few dings and dentsbut NO splits or repairs - SUPERB. The push fit lid still fits well with a twist. It is hallmarked to the base withS.G, anchor,lion passant (sterling silver assay mark),dshowing that it was hallmarked in Birmingham in 1904. I have shown the hallmark so that you can make up your own mind. The lid is also hallmarked lion passant, d. A really rareEdwardian tea caddy from illustrious silversmiths in superb condition after virtually 110 years!!! This is a very rare piece indeed!!
