IMPORTANT GEORGIAN Solid Silver LARGE MUG TANKARD 1734 Hallmarked Sterling NR
3/4 PINT - Francis Spilsbury - 10 troy -STUNNING DESIGN
This is a superb EARLY GEORGE II solid sterling silver LARGE TANKARD or MUG that was made in London, England in 1734 by the illustrious Georgian silversmith, Francis Spilsbury at his Foster Lane workshops. It has a superb and traditional baluster shape, is raised on a skirt base and has a capped scroll handle. The sides are engraved with stunning floral, foliate and swag decoration to the sides. It measures 3 1/4" in diameter across the base, 3 1/8" across the rimand stands 4 1/4" high. It weighs322.1 grams -well over10 1/4troy oz. It is NOT engraved to the cartouche on the front.
It is hallmarked FS,lion passant (sterling silver assay mark),crowned leopard head,T showing that it was hallmarked in London in 1734. It is in very good condition with just the usual surface scratching,very few minor dings butNO dents or distortion or repairs - it is a remarkable piece of quality silver work - SUPERB. I've shown the hallmark so you can make up your own mind. A really superb rare GEORGIAN LARGE TANKARD in very good condition afteralmost 280 years and at a very low start!!!
