For offer is a pair of carved busts, in the style of Igorot from the Philippines.(Igorot people are from the highlands of northern Luzon in the Philippines, but I do not know more about the subjects of this artwork).They come from the islands and from the estate of a Naval officer who was there in the 1950\'s-1960\'s. That is the only age reference I have for them.
10\" tall and about 7\" wide, each weighing about 4 pounds.They are each quite skillfully carved of a single piece of dark wood. Much detail in the hair, hair baskets, pipes, hairbands, necklaces, facesand body forms. The earrings have been carved in situ.There are no condition issues, but thereis natural wood graining, of course.
I just love this pair!A man & woman. Perhaps King & Queen? Clearly, they are a couple. Each has the precocious little smile of love. (I don\'t know how else to best describe it). As you rearrange them, the \"story changes\", no matter how they are oriented, they still seem \"focused on one another\"! Delightful!I believe thistalented craftsmancaptured something very special and chose his subjects particularly. Please, see for yourself in the pictures.
