YOU ARE offerDING ON A SCARCE ILLUMINATED COPTIC LEAF OF FROM A COPTIC BIBLE/PSALTER/MANUSCRIPT, CONTAINING A STUNNING ARTISTIC MINIATURE OF ST GEORGE SLAYING THE SERPENT, WITH VIBRANT COLOR AND DETAILING, ALL ENHANCED IN GOLDThis is a unique illuminated ancient manuscript leaf from a Ethiopian Coptic Bible, certainly quite old, with an estimation of pre- 1800s. Manuscript on vellum with rear containing Ge-Ez script in black with red (signifying words spoken by the Savior), and most notably, the recto containing the gorgeous illustrated icon of St George slaying the serpent, with orange, red, purples, blues and greens used, with gold enhancements and extensive gold crosshatching in the background, as shown, with gorgeous detailing. Vellum parchment in nice shape/condition with minor marginal soiling, else fine with the illuminations cleanly presented. There is a unique hand sewn repair along the lower edge, adding much character as well. As shown; measures 6\" x 5\".
