Fine Imperial Russian silver box, likely a large snuff box or small cigarette box dating to the late 1890s. In addition to the beautiful etched design work, there are 4 small faceted red gem type stones, likely \"faux\" rubies. Stones are held in place the antique way, with the silver worked over the edges to hold them in place.

SIZE: Approximately 3 1/8\" x 2 1/4\" x 3/4\". Weight is about 94.2 grams.

MARKS: Two sets of marks (one set on each side of the box). One mark is a combined silver purity and city mark, indicating 84 zolotniki (875 purity) and I believe a St. George slaying the dragon Moscow city mark (I think). The second mark is two cyrillic letters. I have found these letter attributed to Ivan Saltykov, Moscow (approximately 1884-1897). The same sets of marks repeat on the other side. I am not an expert in Russian silver. Please look at the marks shown in the close up photos below and make you own determination as to origin and maker.

CONDITION: Antique item of about 117 years of age. Hinge is fine and case snaps shut nicely. Exterior is great with just fine surface scratches commensurate with age. A few little blemish on interior as shown in photos below.
