Good Description

Up for sale is an 84 zolotniki (.875 fine) silver combination Tobacco/vesta case. This piece is hallmarked with the troinik or triple mark which began in the year 1882 and was commonly used until 1896, when the kokoshnick marks were instituted. This piece is marked with the 84 zolotniki (.875 fine) silver standard mark, the Moscow city mark, a Cyrillic makers mark which appears to read ‘гк’. The date letter and assay master marks are unidentifiable. This case has an ingenious design featuring a piano hinged top compartment which stores matches. This compartment also is equipped with a striker. The body of the case also has a piano hinged double compartment, in which the bottom aspect would store cigarettes or Tobacco, and the top compartment would hold a picture. Along the right side of the case is a wick storage department with a roller mechanism, which originally would have held a slow burning cotton wick. The outer surfaces of the case are adorned with reeded details. The clasp of the main compartment is tight and secure and the top compartment hinge is loose. There are a couple minor dings in the body of the case and it is believed the front of the case originally had an applied symbol of some sort which is now missing. This piece has a heavy high quality design and would make a wonderful addition to any collection of Russian Antiques or Tobacciana.
