This is a very important American quilt in the Star of Bethlehem design. It was exhibited at the Museum of American Textile for their show in 1991. The quilt previously toured in Japan and later it did tour to other museums.

A fantastic pattern with large center star. In response to Texas\' battle for its independence during the 1840s, this pattern was also named Lone Star, after the single star on the Flag of Texas. This quilt has never been washed, the high glaze on the background is chintz fabric and the original brilliant colors are intact. Prints in several turkey reds, Prussian blues, mustard yellows are glowing in the star. This is the largest quilt we have ever found.

Measures 123 1/2 x 118 1/2 inches certainly one of a kind at this size.

Hand quilted 8-9 stitches per inch.

The binding is hand sewn. Batting is thin. Hand pieced.

Crisp, never washed. Has some age water spotting tanning, some color lift. No wear.
