The frame is a 3-part type as follows: A 4-1/2\" wide sculpted gesso ornament outer part ofleaves, flowers, eggs, and chain, all finished in a charcoal finish which plays off the charcoal drawing and is quite impressive. A 3/4\" wide gold gilt sculpted gesso ornament middle part of eggs, arches and leaves (my impression of the shapes I see). A 1-1/4\" wide plain white inner part under the glass. Overall width of the frame: 6-1/2\".
The frame is Large: 30\" wide x 34\" high x 3\" deep overall, 17\" wide x 21\" high inner frame size (also the visible dimension of the charcoal)
The artist departed from the use of charcoal to make the earing shine with what I guess to be white pencil. It draws my eye. The work seems quite realistic and I think is very good.
I bought this work at sale and was told that this came from the estate of an old woman who said it was of her great grandmother. I don\'t know how accurate this is, but maybe it can be helpful to you.
Condition: Antique,Very nice overall. There is some loss to the outer frame as shown. The inner gilt gesso part of the frame, the inner white part of the frame, and the glass are all in good condition, although they need to be cleaned, particularly under the glass. The charcoal paper looks like it has yellowed over time and has a water stain in the upper right corner. The work itself is very nice. The frame back and backing panels are very dark, which tells me that this frame is quite old. Nice item. Please see the pictures for more details.
