Ruby Ambrotype, 3 ¼”by 2 ¾”, Out of Case, Has Mat, 1850s Dressed Young Man

This 3 ¼” by 2 ¾” ruby ambrotype is out of its case, &was found only with its original brass mat. His cheeks are tinted & thedetails of his features & dress are fine: he has neither a beard, normustache & his hair is nicely cut & groomed; his jacket has a velvetcollar & wide lapels; his large tie of a shiny fabric has a fancy stickpinin the center; around his neck is a thin ribbon which may hold a watch as itdisappears inside his vest; there’s a “gold” mark on the ribbon which mayindicate a gold slide on the ribbon. There are 3 scratches, 2 on his suit &1 over his right eye. These are all the way down to “clear” glass, but the“ruby” color shows in the young man’s hair. The back has a note attached whichI left, “Subject Unknown to Mr. &Mrs. F B. STEIN not our Familyes”.
