JACOB HASBROUCK 1765 Handwritten Journal ~ ledger ~ ciphering ~ genealogy book with embossed stamp act mark Book is a very old bound volume by Jacob Hasbrouck who is a descendant of Abraham Hasbrouck, a French Huguenot immigrant and the founder of New Paltz, Ulster County, NY Writing in the book starts from the year 1765, additional dates are: 1796, 1766, 1767, 1769, 1838, 1842, 1847, 1843, 1846 dates are scattered throughout the book. Flowers were pressed between pages of the book as can be seen in several of the pictures. I have left all the flowers in the book figuring they had significant meaning to them. \"Nassau Hall Jan. 16th 1767” is written in the book. Jacob Hasbrouck had, from research, attended Princeton, and was at Nassau Hall during this time period. Family names listed / written in back of Book: Ann Hasbrouck Mary Hasbrouck Jane E Hasbrouck Josiah Hasbrouck Elizabeth J Hasbrouck The ledger portion of the book is from their mercantile, contains lists of items put on account from local citizens within their community. Names, dates, and years are given. Book measures: approximately 6 1/2 x 8 1/2\" There are a few loose pages, and some pages were torn out. The paper is a ribbed texture with an embossed image in the center. Hand written on original 1765 paper with the 1765 Stamp Act Watermark. In March of 1765 the Stamp Act was passed and was to be enacted on November 1st, 1765. The Stamp Act had required that all colonists purchase watermarked, embossed or \"stamped paper.\" Taxed paper for use in newspapers and legal documents for which the levy was placed. This was the first internal tax ever imposed on the colonies by Parliament and had aroused great opposition by the colonists The pages in Jacob Hasbrouck\'s book with the embossed mark are identical to this image I was able to obtain from the internet. There are too many pages photographed to put into listing. If anyone would like I can email them to you through if requested. Each and every page is a piece of history! This book is a piece of history and a great find, and would make a great addition to any collection!
