JAPANESE SATSUMA THOUSAND FLOWERS VASE SHIMAZU CLAN / KAZAN / MEIJI:
$39.99

Hello and thank you for looking.
Up for sale is this gorgeous hand-painted vase from the Shimazu Clan of Japanin the THOUSAND FLOWERS design.I believe the cartouch reads the family crest of Kazan when compared against other Kazan pieces on Gotheborg.com. I believe it to be Meiji period circa 1880. Gold over red signature. Measures 5\" in height. Mint condition. No substantial wear, damage nor repair. Gold is in very good condition.

Painstakingly hand painted with beautiful detailed period decoration in gilt and various polychrome enamels (moriage). The fine crackling (Kannyu) of the soft, creamy glaze is typical and was used more to give richness and depth to the colors. The enamel and gilding is applied on top of the glaze so that it stands proud of the surface.

There is aSatsuma marks gold and dark oxblood with the traditional Shimazu \"moon\" in gold over cartouche. I cannot decipher the characters in the cartouche using traditional research methods (feel free to check against Gotheborg.com) - but again it looks in the style of Hotoda.
