A beautiful HAND PAINTED, JPL Limoges PLATE with pastel pink roses with Gold artist signed K. B. and dated 1895We have 2 different floral plates by the same artist K.B. signed and dated 1895 and 1897. This listing is for the one dated 1895.The Pouyat family wasone of the oldest French names associated with the porcelain in the Limogesregion dating all the way back to the 1700’s.Jean Pouyat began a company in 1842 at Limoges and the business wascarried on by his sons after his death in 1849.About 1883, the company became known as La Ceramique. The now famous JPL backstamps were usedbeginning in 1851 and the specific one that is on this plate is called mark #5a (Mary Frank Gaston in Collector’s Encyclopedia of Limoges Porcelain, 3rdedition) which was used starting in 1890.
The artist painted beautiful well formed pink and white roses with stems and leaves. The thorns on the vines look so realistic and the white single bloom appears real to life. The leaves are just as beautifully painted. The artist haspainted the plate in great detail, framing it with a narrow gold rim on the scalloped edge which is accented by dabbed gold which israndomlyapplied to the embossing.
This plate is 8 3/4 inches in diameter. The gold work on the plate\'s rim is worn, but still adds to the beauty of the plate while the dabbed gold is unworn and appears to be as the artist intended. While this plate is classified as used, we can find no chips, nicks, hairlines, rubbings, or repairs to this stunning piece. We see no utensil marks on the plate.
