WRITTEN TO HIS SISTER, THIS IS THE LAST DATED LETTER WE HAVE FROM THIS SOLDIER. IT WAS WRITTEN JUNE 9 1864 FROM \"COAL ARBOR\" (COLD HARBOR) JUST A DAY AFTER THAT BATTLE ENDED. HE DESCRIBES THAT BATTLE IN DETAIL, NOTING HOW MANY MEN WERE LOST OR BADLY WOUNDED IN HIS REGIMENT, INCLUDING SOME OFFICERS: LT. COL. JAMES B. McMAHON, COL. FLOOD, AND LT. COL. BYRNE. HE WRITES\" ...I SHOULD LIK TO DISCRIBE THE SEANE OF THE BATTLE FIELD BUT I CAN NOT NO PEN AND PAPER CAN DISCRIBE IT THE REBS MOWED US DOWN FIRST THE SAME AS A FARMER WOULD MOWE DOWN GRASS\".
