James K. Polk For President - George M. Dallas For Vice President 1844 pro-Texas silk presidential campaign ribbon. Titled \"Democratic National Badge\", with a star and \"Texas\" just below it. Texas was still a republic at this time and did not become a state until 1846. Texas statehood was the main issue in the 1844 campaign. A portrait of Thomas Jefferson is at the center encircled by stars with Flags on the sides. An eagle has a banner in it\'s beak which reads, \"Union, Harmony and Vigilance\". It\'s talons clutch a scroll containing the beginning of the United States Constitution. The base lists the names of past Democratic presidents Andrew Jackson and Martin Van Buren. Engraved & Published by R. M. Gaw, No. 25 Merchant St., Very Good++ with two pinholes and a 1/4 inch vertical pull at the top center margin. Some light toning.
