DESCRIPTI0N: Partly-printed war-dated DS (document signed), signed\"James Madison\" as president and \"Jas. Monroe\" as secretary ofstate, one page, 21.25\" x 16.5\", December 8, 1813. A four-languageship\'s papers issued to \"William Nibberts master or commanderof the Schooner called the Russell. .. Lying at present in the port ofNew Bedford bound for Canton, and laden with Ginseng.\" In goodto very good condition, with partial separations along intersect-ing folds, one through a single letter of Madison\'s signature, oldreinforcement along central vertical fold, uniform toning andfoxing, mild overall edge wear, and circular toning from seal. Thewhite wafer seal remains crisp and intact. Canton, also known asGuangzhou, was one of the five National Central Cities of China. Asought-after format, made more intriguing by the unusual destina-tion and cargo. Comes with a Certificate of Authenticity from the salecompany from which it was purchased.
