Japanese \"Golden Age\" Cloisonné Enamel Plaque - Meiji Period: 1864-1912:
$650.00

An exquisite and unique example of late 19th century Japanese Meiji “Golden Age” period (1864-1912) cloisonné enamel, this gorgeous wall plaque, about 16\" square, is ready to hang.I don\'t often describe something as \"stunning,\" but this Japanese cloisonné enamel plaque is ...stunning. The colors are incredibly rich and strong, in a design that is truly captivating, and the artist\'s technical skills are superb. The superb colors are carefully placed within each separate cell of thin wire. Please zoom in for close inspection.A many colored, multi-patterned border frames a bouquet of ripely blooming flowers. Two deep blue phoenixes are facing off, contrasted sharply against a brilliant white background. All the colors are complex and rich, even in the border-- skillfully blended for subtle shades and contrast. The plaque is in fine, antique condition with only minor damage to the black-painted edge of the left side of the solid wooden base, as shown. It displays wonderfully as is, because the paint loss is only on the side edge, but a paint repair would be simple, not involving the cloisonné area. The front surface has absolutely no chips or cracks or pitting in the enamel. This is really a very special treasure.
