This is an antique Japanese Satsuma Moriage Dragon Ware, Gilded,Immortals, 23 Piece Tea Set.

This hand painted set is beautifully decorated with moriage or raisedenamels, gold sculpted dragon detailing and bears the circle mon of the Shimazu family crest. Colorful pieces depict Kannon Bodhisattva, Goddess of Compassion and Mercy, and several Rakans, disciples of Buddha.

All pieces are hand painted with gold gilt on a brown background with blue, green, and redhighlights on thin translucent porcelain. Decorative highlights on the larger pieces include gold dragons on the spouts and each lid, gold handles with vibrant red underbellies and gold claws where the the spout and handles attach to the body of the pots.

All pieces bear the Dai Nippon mark meaning \"Great Japan\".

Circa 1920

The set includes a teapot withlid, creamer with lid, sugar bowl with lid, 10 cups and 10 saucers.

The teapot weighs l lb and 2 ounces and is 7 1/4\" tall, 9”across the sprout and handle with a 3\" base and a 3\" lid opening.

The creamer weighs 10 ounces and is 6\"tall, 7” handle to handle, 2 3/4\" base and 2 3/4\" lid opening.

The sugarbowl weighs 12.6 ounces and is 6” tall, 7\" handle to handle, 3\" base and 3\" lid opening.

The tea cups weigh 1.6 ounces and are 4 3/4\" including the handle with a 1 3/4\" base.

The saucers weigh 2.8 ounces and are 5 ½” in diameter and ¾”deep.

This tea set is in excellent condition with no chips, cracks or repairs. Very slight wear on the rims of a couple of the tea cups and a gold paint smear in one of the tea cups. More photos are available upon request.
