Antique Japanese clip, Arthur & Bond, Yokahama, circa 1900.

Unusual piece, a large spring operated clip. The front piece is sterling silver, and is marked, see photos. The back piece is white metal or perhaps silverplate.

The sterling front is a hammered ground withbeautiful repousse of Iris growing along a stream, highly detailed fine artistry,showing quality similar to Samurai Shokai.

This is a very unusual piece, fabulous for the collector of fine Japanese antiques. In use, it would be gorgeous on a desk clipped to papers to hold them together and weight them down.

Lovely estate condition. The back piece shows loss with what appears to be copper showing in places, see photos.

Measures 3 1/2 inches in length, top width is about 2 1/8 inches, bottom width is 2 3/4 inches.
