We are quite pleased to offer this Japanese mixed metal tea service.

From Whiting, c1880.

Founded in 1886 in New York City. Renowned for their mixed metal silver.

Classic inverted pear shape.

Brilliantly carved scene of a bird in Japanese garden. In mixed metals.

The teapot with spread wing bird carved in such high relief. It appears ready to take flight.

Delicate streaming prunus and lily branch and vine. Slender copper leaves and raised globe copper bud.

The teapot cover with raised hammered saucer finial, atop leafy sprays.

Handle rising from pierced twisted branch terminal.

All over hand hammered surfaces. Thousands of individually hammered punch marks shimmer brilliantly in the light.

Engraved EW.

Hallmarked as shown.

Teapot 5 1/2 inches 11 1/2 standard ounces. Sugar vase 5 1/4 inches 6 3/4 ounces. Creamer 4 1/4 inches 5 1/4 ounces.

Excellent condition. Rich, lustreous sterling patina throughout. Interior clean as if little used. Stands even on table or display. Cover well fit. The brilliant bird in flight and mixed metal floral sprays retain their original crisp, vibrant detail. Few tiny tiny dints, none to decoration.
