This is hand made Japanese porcelain ikebana vase known as a hirokuchi or suiban arranger from the mid Showa Era (c. 1950). I purchased it at sale in Hikone Japan (Shiga prefecture). It has classic Shigaraki drip glaze from the Shiga kilns of Japan. It is all hand made andhas the signature of the Shiga potter,(see last picture) who created this vase over 60 years ago.
The hirokuchi or suiban type Ikebana arrangers are low and flat like this one. It is in the shape of a large leaf with inward curling boarders. The bottom of this arranger has pooling emerald and turquoise glazes that shimmer in a crystalline reflection.
This fine vintage arranger measure 11\" long by 2 3/4\" tall (28 x 6 cm) . Having been in storage for over a half a century it remains infine condition. throughout.
