I picked up this 70 year oldvintagegoban (go board) ata dealer only sale in Japanlast year. I have been buying fine go boards at sale in Japan for over 35 years now and I find this board an exceptional bargaindue to its warm aged patina as well as its clear grain and smooth warm patina and clear growth rings. With absolutely no checks or cracks in this well aged center grain slab (see picture 10).
It has been well played yet well loved and aside from a few very minor nicks on its smooth warm surface (see enlarged pictures) it remains in fine condition witharich warm aged patina. It has a thick 4 1/2\" (11.5 cm) one piece slab of what Ibelieve isage dried kayawood. Four nicely carved 4 1/4\" woodenlegs (11 cm) for a total height of 8 7/8\" (22.5 cm). The top is16 1/4\"by17 5/8\"(41.5 x 45 cm).It also weighs in ata hefty 22pounds.
