Here I am offering a very interesting original miniature portrait painting. It came from the estate of the stepfather (and father of her half siblings) of Jacky Kennedy Onassis in Newport, RI. Hugh Dudley Auchincloss, Jr. (August 15, 1897 – November 20, 1976). He gave Jackie away at her wedding to the future president and also got her her first job in journalism.I bought this miniature together with two other ones without any provenance and asked after I purchased them if the seller could tell me anything further about the miniatures. To my surprise the seller only then told me where they came from and where he got them from (Gustave White saleeers in Portsmouth, RI, when they sold the content of Auchincloss\'s mansion, in mid August of this year). The miniature dates from about 1900 and depict a society lady, I assume one of Auchincloss\'s or his wife\'s (mother of Jackie\'s) ancestors, friends or relatives. Needs further research. I did not open the frame to see is there is any description or signature hidden inside. As most miniatures from this area the painting has a light photographic base.Size: 3 1/2\" (including hanger) x 2 1/4\". Condition: Very good antique condition. All original and untouched. Two tiny and light surface scratches on the bowed glass. The gilding in the back of the frame is slightly worn. See photos.Shipping: Always at cost. $17 in North America.
